Cake Smash, a rite of passage

/

I'm not sure who came up with the idea of a cake smash, but its certainly become a wee-ones rite of passage to enter into toddlerhood.   And of course, we wanted Blake to be apart of this newfound Pinterest tradition. We welcomed it with open arms and a new stick of OxyClean!

I was secretly hoping that Blake would see the beautiful cake, and face plant into the yummy goodness.  Instead, he expressed extreme curiosity before he got the urge to dip a single finger into the icing.  Considering the time it takes for him to eat one Gerber cookie, I thought we would be there for hours, trying to get him to actually eat the cake.

On set, right before the smash!

We gave Blake a blue rattle, and that seemed to be all he was interested in for the majority of our session.  Coincidentally the rattle matched his outfit and backdrop which was unplanned.  What is not pictured are 2 extremely excited parents who are bobbing their heads and arms up and down to Fruit Salad (Wiggles song) and making ridiculous farm animal sounds just to get Blake to look at the camera.

In the end, the cake smash was a success, and we confirmed that Blake is an icing guy, at least at the ripe age of 1.   We took a couple of shots pre-smash and then decided to strip him naked for the rest.  Here are a few of my favorites from our photoshoot.  A huge thanks to our photographer and bakery for helping to make this happen!
